Fuck you Docker

@coolboymew not "fuck you software that is packaged badly so I need to run a container to use it", cause that's generally how I feel

Basically:
>Wants to build a nice list of IPTV channels and EGP guides
>Try Jellyfin
>IPTV has no sound
>Oops, this needs the ignore DTS feature but since it's not a bug but a feature we'll push it in a way later version :))))))))
>Attempt to install unstable but it's probably not gonna go right on a Debian based distro
>Nearly all alternatives either suck, or won't be easily installed on Debian
>Alright, let's install unstable, which has the feature
>Docker container is the easiest way
>It's an heavy piece of shit
>Video feed doesn't even work anymore

ARRRGHHHHHH why is this so difficult? I'm just trying to build a nice list of local channels, some France channels I can actually watch, a few PlutoTV and co channels and other IPTVs I have access to

WHYYYY is this so difficult oh god

@coolboymew@shitposter.world Learned this the hard way

@coolboymew @prettygood I use kodi and the simple IPTV add-on integrated in the software repo and then use the free iptv channels listed here.

https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv#playlists

I use the Québec and France iptv lists but I have to use a VPN to access region locked channels. I kinda wish Télétoon and other channels were there but all this iPTV repo has is is ICI Radio Canada, TVA , Noovo, and Télé Québec.

@coolboymew @prettygood almost like the rejects that make FOSS only do it because they can’t get real dev jobs

@ooignignoktoo @prettygood I think I almost tried kodi but there's an issue with a few of the plug-ins somehow not being in the distro repo

I really need to go get an older computer and just fucking install ubuntu or arch to play with that kinda shit

@mitchconner @prettygood I know I know, but if I have it up seriously, I'll probably do it on another computer in the home

@mitchconner @coolboymew @prettygood but I don't use IPTV tho

@coolboymew @prettygood

I used a cheap TIO to do my workload for that. Kodi is not too intensive any modern iGPU can do 1080p iptv playback without issue. The plutoTV channels aren't region locked but I tried watching a French PlutoTV nickelodeon channel once and it was playing Rocko's Modern life in German instead of French so it can be hit or miss.

@ooignignoktoo @prettygood How strong is the CPU on that in passmark score?

@sapphire @coolboymew @prettygood you wish
proprietary software is just as bad, but also purchasing has to spend weeks sending emails back and forth trying to buy and acquire the license

@ElDeadKennedy @coolboymew @prettygood Kennedy only uses Cast Iron TV

@mitchconner @coolboymew @prettygood you know it's funny you should mention that

because i CAST the content on my jellyfin server to a bunch of raspberry pies running kodi

@coolboymew @prettygood
>local channels
i'm pretty sure you were looking for these, not some silly whale app

@coolboymew @prettygood I think it's a ryzen 3300u and this is what a bench online said.

@skylar @prettygood no EGP guides with these

@ooignignoktoo @prettygood that's almost as good as the CPU on my main pc

@skylar @coolboymew @prettygood in this application I’ve heard plex works great

@coolboymew@shitposter.world @mitchconner@clubcyberia.co @prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer Tfw u gotta host a media server just to use it as a stream client for iptv 😭

@coolboymew @prettygood It's a solid quad core with an okayish iGPU doesn't have hyperthreading and the machine is locked to 8GB of ram unless I git gud and learn how to bga solder new ram chips but it's good enough as a tv streaming box and emulating up to PS2/Gamecube.

@mitchconner @coolboymew @prettygood have you seen my jellyfin server? every time i boot it up it goes "please just kill me already please please PLEASE"

@hj @mitchconner @coolboymew @prettygood i wish, it's an Atom D510

@hj @mitchconner @coolboymew @prettygood it works just fine as long as you don't need transcoding. 4 people watching full hd movies at the same time and no problems at all

@coolboymew @prettygood what's an EGP
i hope it's not like ERP

@hj @coolboymew @mitchconner @prettygood maybe if it's a hot summer day it needs something fancy like a fan

@coolboymew @hj @mitchconner @prettygood during winter i remove the fan because there's no speed control so it's always going FLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

@skylar @prettygood xml tv guide info

@coolboymew @prettygood

TV is an asshole.

@coolboymew @hj @mitchconner @prettygood but can your processor do this?

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @prettygood as much as the top end has stagnated budget chips have gotten insane in the past few years.

@sapphire @coolboymew @prettygood

I don't see any reason to upgrade from my 5800x3d for now until AM6 is released. Only thing I may do is upgrade my RTX 3070 to an AMD 8000 series GPU since AMD is more compatible with Linux and i want to move away from windows once Win 10 hits EoL. I'll probably give the 3070 to my nephew who has a 1070 right now paired with a Ryzen 5 3600

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @prettygood I got my motherboard for free so I got an i7-13700k and itll probably be the last discrete processor I buy, same with my 4080. unless things break I see no reason to upgrade my PC again until PCs are dead

@sapphire @coolboymew @prettygood

Luckily most modern AAA gaming is woke gacha shit that's not worth buying so it's becoming less and less needed to for a top of the line GPU to play games that are worth playing.

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @prettygood even if it was nvidia is finally outrunning pajeetware code, even in MW3 which is a dogshit optimized game my GPU can crunch out 200 frames at 1080p max

@sapphire @coolboymew @prettygood

The only modern title i play right now is CS2 and that game is honestly a disappointing sequel to CS:GO in it's current state. Outside of that I play older games no AAA titles in the last few years have interested me. I did play Halo Infinite and that game was a pile of dogshit that i quit after season 2 and haven't gone back since. Cross platform FPS with overpowred aimpad assist for gamepads is retarded and I can't take it seriously on a competitive level at all.

@coolboymew @prettygood
>WHYYYY is this so difficult oh god
Two words: TV merchants.

@coolboymew @prettygood Maybe it's not the same in Quebec but in France IPTV is heavily regulated (copyright and bs) and you can't watch shit without either a specific ISP giving you a simple rtsp flux that you can load in mpv/vlc, or layers upon layers of DRM/Javascript-malware inside a browser.

@mangeurdenuage @prettygood

Hmm?

https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv

Last I checked there was plenty in France

Otherwise the QC ones works in VLC just fine

@coolboymew @prettygood
>Last I checked there was plenty in France
I just checked the list and most of these aren't even known to the public. Most people have like 20 channels via the half public/private broadcasting system and that's it. For more you have to pay.
Surprisingly there isn't Arte in this, they had a plugin in the past for the gnome player in the past and it worked well but they revoked all public access, even tho they're still funded by the public taxes...

@mangeurdenuage @prettygood Hmm weird

All the major public channels you had get for free are IPTVs you can get for free on that too. Only issue is EGP guides but I found a site and something that can extract them. Oh and some of them are geoblocked, but that's standard

@coolboymew @mangeurdenuage @prettygood The QC list does have a couple of channels that aren't french though ICI Montreal appears to be an anglophone channel and there's also Montreal Greek TV that appears to be in Greek language. Was not aware there was a sizeable Greek dispora in Montréal that yield such a demand but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@ooignignoktoo @mangeurdenuage @prettygood

>Canada list
>About 95% of the channels aren't French or English
Pretty fucking mad about that. What fucking garbage

@coolboymew @mangeurdenuage @prettygood

Yeah the Canada list had a lot of hindi and chinese language channels last I checked. KODI had another add-on I use with a french VPN called France.TV that cycles content monthly. I think last month the had Kimo no Na wa on stream and an assortment of some France tv shows that I don't remember the name. I watch an episode of one that was like a crime show and it was kinda mid.

@coolboymew Probably try straight mpv - you can quite easily compile in support for IPTV via ffmpeg.

@Suiseiseki The issue is that I want EPG guides, and a cable like channel selection to go with it. That's the entire problem
