Socially Drinking At Computer

Jesus Christ fedi becomes crazy just of that stupid screenshot with numbers

@waifu https://plush.city/@mynameistillian/112337043372014023
tl;dr (as far as I understand): someone found that one's of Telegram promotion screenshots uses "1488" number for message timestamp and this turned out into hot topic and accusing one big russian instance (mastodon.ml) of fascism (again).

@vertka @waifu let me be clear I'm no telegram stan but I'm not going to start flailing around frothing at the mouth because of a number.

@prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer @vertka@suya.place this seems a little over the board but since i see many contradictions in the post history of the user, it ain't a surprise

@prettygood @waifu Signal isn't better though (SIM, IMSI, phone number dependency, which term is proper here?). At this point it's just changing shoes, with more drama or "loud door closure".

@vertka @waifu counterpoint, I trust Signal's encryption more than Telegram's. It is true that both require a phone number but Signal has been a lot more transparent about their services even if the server software went non-free a long time ago.

@prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer @vertka@suya.place if only xmpp was usable (64th time i've said this today)

@prettygood @waifu @vertka signal encryption is security is objectively better than telegram
that's why encryption is usually off on telegram, that's not what people use it for

@waifu @prettygood @vertka "This counter resets daily."

@waifu @prettygood I'm more worried about people who start drama and unwillingly drag people who can inspire/get inspired to do something stupid, like "oh yeah this instance is known for bad actions" and obviously nobody will ask or provide evidences. Everyone will pull the blanket of truth over themselves and ultimately blur their eyes with the opinions of others. I don't want people fight like this.

@vertka@suya.place @prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer this is something inevitable, as in, there's a portion of fedi that will always do this, you have no say over it since you can't control them, you can only teach other people why it is important to provide evidence

@prettygood @waifu @vertka Not only is Telegram encryption questionable, it's also not E2E by default, unlike Signal.

@Paulajak @waifu @prettygood at least you can learn how Signal work on server side. Watching Durov's interview to Tucker made me think that Telegram is still shading truth about server encryption after related allegations. Of course, we're always talking about infamous competitors spreading rumors about Telegram.

@prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer @vertka@suya.place @waifu@mai.waifuism.life What about if it's a nuclear launch code? Or a encrypted message for the secret of the universe or Eldritch abomination activation key.
